The 66-year-old was crossing the road close to Chingford train station in Station Road when she was hit by a car which was pulling away after been parked nearby.
The incident happened on June 5 and officers were called at about 11.50am.
Medics from the London Ambulance Service also attended and it was intially reported Mrs Barnard had suffered minor knee and head injuries.
She was taken to Whipps Cross Hospital and was then transferred to the National Neurological Hospital after doctors realised the injuries were worse than first feared.
