A SCHOOL has made it to the final of a national science competition.

Six Trinity High School pupils have has won a nomination to the final of the National Science and Engineering Competition.

The nomination was for the Woodford Green school's science project, ‘Energy and Your School’ and the six girls presented a problem and solution surrounding energy at their school.

If the project makes it through the team will be invited to present at The Big Bang UK in March next year, where there will be more than £250,000 of prizes available including cash awards and trips abroad.

About 1,300 children from over 100 London schools joined the London Big Bang Fair at Westminster Kingsway College on July 13.

The event was designed to get youngsters excited about studying science, technology, engineering and maths.

Children from across the capital demonstrated 74 different projects at the event, the best of which will go forward for national awards.

Eleven schools were recognised for outstanding achievements.

The group of Year 8 pupils from the Mornington Road school targeted one of the school buildings and built a model of it.

They told judges that because most of the school's computers were in the building, it used the most energy and solar energy could be used to reduce the consumption.

The girls were accompanied at the competition by their science teacher Derek Losby and they made it there after being picked after a simialr competition held at the school.
