ILFORD: Town centre forum meeting arranged

BUSINESS owners are being given the chance to put forward ideas to improve their town centre.

The Ilford Business Improvement District team has organised a forum for businessmen and women in Ilford to meet with members of the BID board, police and council representatives.

The event will give business people the opportunity to ask questions or make suggestions for Ilford.

Neil Davis, town centre manager said: "From the research that we carry out on a regular basis within the town centre, we know that business owners within Ilford are always keen to air their views and have many questions to ask.  "By opening up a forum and bringing all business stakeholders together this will provide an opportunity to discuss the development of Ilford and the part that we all play in it."

The event will be from midday to 2pm on September 17 at The IF Bar on Ilford Hill.

For more details call Mr Davis at Ilford BID on 020 8478 3534.

Ilford was once one of the nicest towns in the area, with an excellent variety of shops. Now it is like a third-world slum with rubbish all over the place.

I remember growing up in Ilford in the early 80s, there was never any reason to go anywhere else as Ilford had pretty much everything a pimply teenager could want (Our Price, Down Town Records etc)- now its just Poundshops, "Charity" collectors, mobile phone accessories and that's about it. Not only that but you also get crucified for driving into the area to park and buy anything. I now (reluctantly) have to admit to going to Bluewater or Lakeside, what I pay in petrol is offset by the convenience of easy (free) parking and the absence of youths who have difficulty choosing trousers which are the right size for them and insist on loitering in groups with ill behaved "Staffie" crossbreeds (which probably have a higher IQ than the plank on the other end of the lead).
