THEYDON BOIS: Villagers meet over commuter car park

A VILLAGE campaign group held a drop-in session for residents to learn more about controversial plans for a commuter car park.

Theydon Bois Action Group (TBAG) set up at the Queen Victoria pub, in Coppice Row, to display copies of the plans for the intended 179 space car park.

Around 60 residents attended to take in the plans for the car park which is intended to be built on Green Belt land off Abridge Road.

A spokeswoman for TBAG said: “All the residents bar one had very strong reservations about the proposal and either signed the pro forma objection prepared by TBAG, or planned to return home to either write their own objection or comment online.

“TBAG will be using the comments made by visitors to formulate their collective response to the application.”

The developer behind the car park plans, George Dilloway, has said his scheme will ease commuter parking in Theydon Bois, and has claimed to have many supporters in the village.

One of them, Valerie Keeley, 62, of Theydon Park Road, Theydon Bois, said: “I've lived here ten years and the situation is ridiculous. I've got a sister in Havering-atte-Bower. She's got no bus service and her nearest station is Theydon Bois. She's got nowhere to park.

“Parking on the roads is a nightmare. We've got yellow lines outside but that creates more problems because people end up parking all over. I've always supported the car park, I can't see how it can't help.”

People have until Friday, November 5 to makes comments on the application to Epping Forest District Council, at the Civic Offices, in Epping High Street.

I couldn't agree more! If we could have a car park in Chigwell to take away all of the commuter parking i'd wholeheartedly support it!
These residents in Theydon are mad and constantly complaining about something new!

The Nimby's must just accept the fact that people have cars and need to park and should welcome the same as long as you dont have the normal problems with courting couples in cars and dog walkers not picking up the do do deposits

Theydon Bois seems to be located within a bubble of pettiness and misery. My mother recalls a public meeting of residents in the late 1960s when they were protesting against the prospect of new fangled street lights. Two old ladies attending the meeting had to be taken to hospital afterwards because they fell over and hurt themselves because it was too dark to see! These residents just need a reason for living and pruning roses is just not enough.

I think you're being a little unfair to the residents of TB. Look at the plans - it's not just for the car park - if it's approved the the developer wants to eventually turn this whole site into housing plus more. The road system can't support it. Plus it's supposed to be green belt land - whatever your views this is supposed to take precedence.

On another point, if the tube is full up by Epping/Theydon Bois, what chance does anyone from Debden onwards have of getting on the train in the mornings - as it is you often can't get a seat at TB around 8am.

I'm also not sure about the lady saying that her sister can't visit and park - you can park anywhere so long as it's not between 11am and 12pm (or an hour earlier in some roads) - just tell your visitors to avoid visiting at that time - not hard for the older generation surely?
