AN HISTORIC church dating back more than 130 years is up for sale.

The Cambridge Park Methodist Church in Wanstead, closed its door to worshippers a year ago after its owners could not afford to repair the damaged roof.

Estate agents Cluttons are now inviting bids for the property, which it describes as having “potential for multiple uses.”

Cluttons spokesman Sam Graham said: “We have had two open days at the property in the last two weeks.

Several religious organisations have looked around. “But there’s been a lot of interest from all sorts of people.”

More than 100 people attended the church’s final service last May.

Malcolm Chumbley, Head of Land and Development at Cluttons, said: “Cambridge Park Methodist Church presents a rare opportunity for a house builder, developer or any individual interested in former church sites.”

“We have already received enquiries about this site and would advise parties to note their interest as early as possible.”

Anyone interested in buying the old church has until June 10 to get submit a bid.
