A LONG-RUNNING battle to get dog mess bins installed on a popular green could be reaching a conclusion.
More than 900 people signed a petition in March 2010 calling on the council to install special bins on The Green in Woodford Green.
Residents say the area, which currently has no dedicated dog mess bins, is a health hazard to young children.
Aside from the problem of people failing to pick up their dog’s mess, responsible pet owners are also forced to put poo in standard open-topped bins.
Residents claim foxes regularly raid those bins for food dragging everything else, including bags of dog mess, out in the process.
The issue was raised at a succession of area two council committee meetings.
But because the Green is Corporation of London land, and the Corporation no longer install specialised dog mess bins, the council have been powerless to install new bins.
But an agreement has now been reached between Redbridge council and the Corporation.
Speaking today, (October 12), a spokeswoman for the council said: “We have now received the wayleave permission back from the Conservators to install the two dog waste bins.
“A works order has been issued and it is anticipated that the bins will be installed within the next 10 days.”
