A PROPERTY developer which expressed an interest in demolishing Chingford's historic municipal offices has now bought the site.
Earlier this month Fairview New Homes Ltd asked the council whether a proposal for the site in The Ridgeway would need an environmental impact assessment - the first step in a potential planning application.
The plans, which exclude the demolition of the former town hall section of the site, were registered on December 12.
The council refused to confirm whether a sale had taken place but Chingford councillor and Tory leader Cllr Matt Davis said officers confirmed to him the sale was completed on December 19 - a week after Fairview's initial approach was registered.
A council briefing for potential buyers of the complex recommended there is space for 150 to 250 flats in buildings of up to four storeys high.
Ward councillors are planning to meet with Fairview in early January to discuss its proposals.
