Open air theatre is returning to Epping Forest this August.

The Tempest and Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves are being performed by Illyria, the travelling theatre company, against the backdrop of The Temple in Wanstead Park.

Illyria, now in its 28th touring season, is an intrepid band of five actors who perform Shakespeare, entirely uncut, as well as other plays. Since 1992 they have performed across the UK as well as in Ireland, France, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, USA and Canada. It is the only UK open-air touring company to have won four international awards, and has a well-deserved reputation for being both entertaining and creative.

On Friday, August 9, they will perform Shakespeare’s The Tempest at 7pm. On Wednesday, August 29, they will perform Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves at 4pm.

Graeme Doshi-Smith, Chairman of the City of London Corporation’s Epping Forest and Commons Committee, said: “We are delighted to welcome Illyria back to Wanstead Park.

“Their performances are always joyful and entertaining and their return signals summer is really underway at the site.”
