A plethora of summer events will recapture the Olympic spirit, said one of the men behind the Games, after Bruce Springsteen wowed 80,000 fans at the site of London 2012 last weekend.

The global superstar headlined at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park last Sunday along with Kasabian and The Black Crowes in the first of several planned events this summer.

London Legacy Development Corporation head Dennis Hone, who helped plan the Games last year with the Olympic Delivery Authority, praised the hundreds of volunteers working behind the scenes at the gig, and predicted the buzz of the Olympics would reignite this year.

He said: “This weekend proved once again that east London can put on a great party. It was a real taste of what people can expect when the Park fully opens next year. I would like to thank all the local volunteers for their role in making it happen.

“There is plenty of opportunity for other locals to join the fun and recapture the Spirit of 2012.”

Indie favourites Mumford & Sons will headline the Summer Stampede tomorrow and the celebrations will continue, with music and comedy performances planned at Go Local on July 19 and Open East Festival on July 27 and 28.

The park is expected to be fully open by spring 2014, when building and landscaping work should be complete.
