A nursery in Wanstead has been praised by Ofsted inspectors.

Little Bear's Nursery School and Club, in Seagry Road, was rated good by the education watchdog following an inspection in April – although the report has only just been published.

Ofsted said staff were good, the nursery was well-resourced and that children were happy.

The report said: “Children make good progress towards the early learning goals. They enjoy playing and learning and benefit from good staff interaction...

“Children make good attachments with staff which promotes their well-being and independence.

“Staff are good role models - they show affection towards children and act respectfully towards each other and parents.

“This means that children see and experience positive behaviour at the nursery which helps them understand how to behave well.”

Little Bear's management was also praised and the nursery was described as a safe and secure place.

However Ofsted said the nursery could not yet be rated outstanding because its role-play area and art activities “lack variety and imagination” to fully engage children.

The privately-run nursery, which looks after around 50 youngsters, opened earlier this year.

The company has another but separately-run branch, also called Little Bear's Nursery, nearby in The Green, Wanstead.
