A second travellers site has been set up in the area around Walthamstow Stadium.

A total of 14 caravans moved on to the former car park of the derelict dog racing track in Chingford Road earlier this week.

And now more travellers have arrived and settled on a patch of land at the rear of an industrial estate on the other side of the A406 by Billet Road and the Billet roundabout.

The Guardian counted 11 caravans and motorhomes on the second site.

Neighbours have given a mixed reaction to the arrival of the new residents.

Gail Penfold, chairwoman of the Walthamstow Stadium Area Resident’s Association, met with the first group earlier this week to welcome them to the area and said she hoped they would respect the neighbourhood.

Shortly after their arrival Waltham Forest Council said it would send staff to the scene to assess any health and welfare concerns.

Housing association London and Quadrant (L&Q) is currently building a housing estate on the Walthamstow Stadium site, while a bus depot is planned for the car park.
