A former headteacher banned for life for expenses abuse can apply to teach again in two years, it was ruled last week.

Jo Shuter, the former headteacher of King Solomon High School, in Forest Road, Barkingside, admitted misconduct relating to around £30,000 claims.

They came in her previous role as headteacher of Quintin Kynaston Community Academy in St John’s Wood.

She was banned for life in May, but following an appeal hearing held on Friday by the National College of Teaching and Leadership (NCTL), it was decided she can apply to return to the profession from May 13 2016.

Ms Shuter took over at the Jewish free school in September 2013 and she was named headteacher of the year in 2007 for turning Kynaston Community Academy around, being awarded a CBE in 2010.

Amongst other expenses she admitted charging the academy over £6,000 for her 50th birthday celebrations, for her mobile phone bills, the delivery of £1,500 of furniture to her home and nearly £6,000 in taxi journeys not in school hours.

Two rival petitions were set up by parents of King Solomon, one calling for her to remain in her current job, and another insisting she should be sacked.

In the end she was suspended by governors and Dr Paul Doherty is currently running the school and Trinity Catholic High School in Mornington Road, Woodford Green.
