SKATERS secured victories in a championship competition in Waltham Forest.

Competitors from Lee Valley Ice Centre wowed judges as they hit high scores across the 30 categories, this week.

The Skate Southern Club International Championships were held at the centre on Lea Bridge Road in Leyton, with over 400 taking part over four days.

Around 20 competitors who train at Lee Valley Ice Centre took part in this competition which used the International Judging System (IJS) scoring system.

Rei Yoshimoto won first place in the Advanced Novice Ladies Free Skating event, Alex Vernon won second place in the Basic Novice A Men event.

Tallulah Bower finished second and Tanya Thind finished third in the level one under ten girls competition.

Zoe Wilkinson, who is also connected with Lee Valley Ice Centre, won third place in the senior competition.

Tara Fehilly, Lee Valley Ice Centre Schools Coordinator said: “Congratulations to all the competitors and a special well done to the medal winners who did fantastically well. We’re very proud of everyone who took part.”

Owners of the Ice Centre, LVRPA, are currently considering expansion plans which could make it a ‘twin pad’ centre.
