Two popular bus routes are on diversion this week due to roadworks, designed to make a busy road 20mph.

Winchester Road in Highams Park has long been described by residents as "notoriously dangerous" for its speeding drivers and serious accidents along the narrow 30mph road.

Following a resident-led campaign and petition, Waltham Forest council announced in July it would introduce a range of traffic calming measures to bring down the speed.

The road is closed from 9am to 5pm between September 28 and October to carry out the resurfacing works.

Changes to the road layout include raised zebra crossings and junctions, speed humps, narrowing the carriageway at bends to deter HGVs, and dropped kerbs with tactile paving in side roads.

It is still open to pedestrians but cars are diverted via Wadham Road and Hale End Road from Larkshall Road

Bus route's 212 and W16 are being diverted through Wadham Road, Hale End Road, and Station Approach.

The works are due to be completed this autumn.
