Three year 11 pupils were given the opportunity to interview a Little Mix singer after being tricked into believing they were going on a media training event.

Media staff at Highams Park School in Handsworth Avenue arranged in secret for Tim Ozdenya , Gemma Aldeen, and Sakhile Lafayette to be part of Nick Grimshaw's 'School Run' on his Radio 1 Breakfast Show.

The pupils thought they were driven by Tim's mother to an after-school training session on September 21, but instead they got into a rigged car driven by Little Mix's Leigh-Anne Pinnock.

Followed by the X Factor judge himself and Little Mix member Jade Thirwell in a car behind, the pupils were given questions to pose to Ms Pinnock about her personal life and professional career.

Cheeky Tim even plucked up the courage to ask the singer out on a date.

The programme was one of three 'School Run' episodes that also featured Olly Murs and Demi Lovato.

Head of English and media, Chris Harris, said: "Students were told they were going on a training afternoon to take notes on media-related matters.

"We selected them through a series of informal interviews for this media 'project'.

"They did very well, even Nick Grimshaw says in the clip he will 'be put out of a job!'"
