The e-fit image of a man who raped a woman in her own home in a "shocking" aggravated burglary has been released by detectives.

The victim, in her 30s, found a gang of attackers, consisting of two black men and one white man, inside her home in Woodford Green at 1.30pm on July 15.

She was then assaulted and raped by one of the men.

After the brutal attack the gang escaped her home with "a quantity" of jewellery.

The woman was taken to Whipps Cross Hospital by paramedics suffering from bruising and shock.

The man believed to have carried out the rape is described by the Met as a dark-skinned black man with small vertical tribal marks on both cheeks and in his late 40s.

He has short black hair and is believed to speak a dialect from Ghana called Yoruba.

He was wearing a grey short-sleeved T-shirt with the image of a large black head on the front. He also wore big black boots, blue jeans and black gloves.

The other black man at the address was in his late 20s with short curly hair and glasses.

The white man is described as having black parted hair.

Conservative Church End councillor Tom McLaren said he was “deeply shocked” when he heard about the incident in July.

He told The Guardian: “It is a shocking crime and it is awful that this has happened.

“Hopefully this is a one-off incident because this is not the type of crime that usually happens in Woodford Green.

“It is usually relatively safer than other parts of Redbridge with most crime being vehicle thefts and property break-ins.

“My heart goes out to the people involved and I hope the perpetrators are caught.”

There have been no arrests at this stage and police enquiries continue.
