COMMUTERS using the Gospel Oak to Barking Overground line will pay more for travel while it closes for eight months in June, says rail group.

The Barking – Gospel Oak Rail User Group (BGORUG) heard at a TfL advice session in Barking station on Monday (April 18) that passengers diverted through Zone 1 will pay more.

The Overground line which avoids Zone 1 as it runs through Waltham Forest is closing for electrification on Saturday, June 4, for eight months.

BGORUG secretary, Glenn Wallis said: “TfL was asked by BGORUG to ensure that regular passengers would not be paying more in fares when having to use alternative routes.

“Unfortunately, it seems that some passengers certainly will be charged more.

“Passengers who have to change trains in Zone 1 must plan a route that does not involve passing through ticket gate or they will be charged a Zone 1 fare.”

BGORUG are urging commuters to find how out more at TfL advice sessions being held at the stations which are due to close.

The remaining sessions will run from 4pm to 7pm at Wanstead Park station on Wednesday (April 20), Leytonstone High Road station on Thursday (April 21), Leyton Midland Road station on Friday (April 22), Walthamstow Queen’s Road station on Monday (April 25) and Blackhorse Road station on Tuesday (April 26).
