A LORRY has smashed though a level crossing at an Overground station, leaving the barriers bent out of shape.

At around 8.30am today (November 21) a lorry smashed through the barriers at the level crossing at Highams Park Station.

The lorry did not stop at the crash, leading British Transport Police to chase down the vehicle and the driver.

Police found the lorry and the driver at around 10.30am but no arrests have been made yet.

There we no injuries involved in the damage only crash.

Trains are being cautioned through the station while Network Rail work to take down the broken barriers.

Police have closed off the surrounding roads and are diverting traffic while the work continues.

Network Rail can not give an estimated time for the return of normal service before the replacement barriers are delivered.
