Artists are asking residents to choose the design of a new mural, which will spruce up a centre for people with learning difficulties.

Wood Street Walls, a collective whose street art can been seen across Walthamstow, have agreed to redecorate the Markhouse Road Day Centre.

Artists have created two multi-coloured designs, which the public will be able to vote for. The most popular choice will be painted onto the building’s exterior.

Renovation of the centre, which is being funded by Waltham Forest council, will also include work to make the site more accommodating for people with autism.

Cllr Angie Bean, cabinet member for adult services, said: “The Markhouse Road Day Centre is a much-valued facility and these improvements will enable staff to deliver a higher quality service to adults with learning disabilities, many of whom have complex needs.

“Having a wonderful local organisation like Wood Street Walls play a part really is the icing on the cake, and I look forward to seeing the winning design brought to life.”
