BLUNDERING transport bosses have apologised for fining people on the Tube – because their machines were broken.

Commuters at Snaresbrook Station have been complaining about broken Oyster card readers for nearly a month.

Throughout December station users have taken to social media because Transport for London (TfL) fined them because they could not tap out at the Snaresbrook barriers.

Writing on Twitter, Central Line commuter Alice Harvey said: “Barriers at Snaresbrook not working again. Going to explode if it’s not sorted soon.”

Another wrote: “If you’re not going to have ticket offices anymore then the least you can do is make sure the machines work. Sort yourself out.”

TfL claims the problem has now been solved and apologised to everyone affected.

Director of customer experience Shashi Verma said: “There have unfortunately been several recent instances where customers have not been able to touch out with their Oyster and Contactless card at Snaresbrook Tube Station.

“I would like to apologise for any inconvenience that this has caused.

“The problem has now been fixed and we are monitoring the station’s readers closely.”

The transport boss urged any customers who have been unfairly charged to go to the TfL website to get their refunds.
