A MAN who volunteered as a policeman has been jailed after sexually abusing children.

Special sergeant Craig Keane, 28, admitted nine counts of sexual assault against a child under 13-years-old at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Monday (March 20).

He was charged on January 27 after an investigation by the Met Police’s sexual offences exploitation and child abuse command.

The abuse is believed to have taken place in Romford in October last year.

As part of his role within the Metropolitan Special Constabulary he spent around 16 hours a week helping police out with foot and vehicle patrols, making door-to-door enquiries, and giving talks in schools.

He was sentenced to 13 years in prison, 10 years on the sex offenders register, and an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.

He was suspended as a special sergeant, a job he was not paid for.
