A NEW breed of market traders are doubling their dough thanks to interest free micro loans.

A dozen students from Walthamstow free school, Big Creative Academy, doubled their profits in four days selling t-shirts and tote-bags at Walthamstow market.

It is part of the Business Battle project, supported by the London Stock Exchange Group, which helps youths from London’s poorest boroughs learn negotiating and customer interaction skills.

Experts from the education charity MyBnk taught them how to design, cost, sell and market products, write business plans, give sales pitches, and budget.

Student, Aman Guhinya, 18, said: “At the beginning of the week I wanted to be a rapper, but now I want to set up my own business.”

CEO at MyBnk, Guy Rigden said it was fantastic to witness the transformation in the students.

He added: “This type of education is vital to a young person’s development, either in enterprise or employment.”
