Toby Alderweireld has given the clearest indication yet of his Tottenham Hotspur future after admitting he expects to stay at the club next season.

Losing the Belgian international has been a fear for many Spurs fans, with the imposing centre-back repeatedly being linked with a move away.

The 28-year-old has been involved in ongoing contract negotiations with the club and is believed to be asking for £100,000-a-week, a figure which would put him among the club's top earners.

He is yet to receive a firm offer from Spurs, but nonetheless expects to stay at the club he joined in July 2015.

"I'm still waiting for a contract proposal, but in my mind I'm playing for Spurs next season," he told press while on international duty.

"There are no talks now, so it's all rumours, because if there's no talk there's no rejection as well.

"We will see in the future about how it will go."

Alderweireld has been hugely impressive since making the move to North London and was named in the Premier League PFA Team of the Year in 2016.

His performances have attracted admiring glances from Old Trafford, where Jose Mourinho is eager to strengthen Manchester United's defensive options.

Teams on the continent are also said to covet the former Ajax man, with Inter Milan reportedly keen on securing his signature.

His current contract includes a release clause of just £25m which will become active in 2019 and Spurs are understandably eager to tie him to a new deal.

Meanwhile, Kyle Walker's future is no clearer and the right-back is refusing to be drawn on speculation linking him with a move to Manchester City, He told the Evening Standard: "Coming away from club football kind of gives you a little head space.

"I am an England player now and I am fully focused on a massive game on Saturday. [against Scotland] We need to go and get three points."
