A teenage boy who was hit by a train at a level crossing is no longer thought to be in a life-threatening condition.
The 16-year-old was seriously injured in during an accident at the level crossing next to Highams Park station at around 8.25am yesterday morning (Monday, October 2).
Paramedics arrived on scene and the boy was airlifted to hospital after an air ambulance landed on the grounds of nearby Highams Park School.
He was initially understood to be fighting for his life, however, British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed this morning the boy’s condition has stabilised.
A BTP spokesman said: “The boy still remains in hospital receiving treatment.
“However, his condition is no longer deemed to be life-threatening.”
Highams Park School has already confirmed none of its pupils were involved in the incident. Police have informed the boy’s family.
BTP officers are currently conducting enquiries to establish what took place at the station, although they are not thought to be treating the incident as suspicious.
