More than 30 firefighters were sent to tackle a blaze in a high street restaurant.
Crews were called to Barkingside High Street at around 1.15am this morning (Thursday, November 9) to a restaurant with flats above it.
Part of the ground floor and part of the first floor were damaged by fire.
Two adults and one child left a first floor flat and three adults left a second floor flat before the arrival of the brigade.
A further five adults and four children self evacuated adjacent properties as a precaution.
Crews from Hainault, Ilford, Woodford, Leytonstone and Stratford fire stations attended the scene and were able to bring the blaze under control by 3.35am.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
