Over a thousand people turned out for the annual Remembrance Day Parade in Chingford on Sunday.

War veterans, police cadets, scouts and members of the Royal British Legion Band and Riders Branch marched from the fire station in The Ridgeway to cenotaph in Kings Head Hill.

There was a wreath-laying service at the memorial and prayers before the parade made its way to the nearby cemetery to pay their respects to over 300 war heroes buried there.

Secretary of the Chingford Branch of the Royal British Legion Robert Cantwell said: “A few years ago I went into the cemetery and saw that the graves were in a disgusting state.

“I brought this up with the War Graves’ Commission and now every year children from six local schools place a cross and a wreath on each grave.”
