A MAN was left with serious facial injuries after burglars made off with thousands of pounds worth of jewellery.

The victim, in his 60s, was struck with a metal bar by one of four robbers after refusing to comply with their demands for jewellery.

Gold jewellery worth around £30,000 was stolen.

Paramedics treated the victim and took him to an east London hospital. He was later discharged.

The aggravated burglary took place at an address in Roding Lane South, Ilford, at around 9.30pm on Sunday, November 12.

There have been no arrests.

Detective Constable Chris Christoforou said: "This was a terrifying burglary. A man was woken up by intruders, who used violence and made off with valuable jewellery of huge sentimental value.

“We would urge anyone with information about this burglary to get in touch as soon as possible.”

Police have released pictures of the jewellery and are appealing to anyone who recognises it to get in touch.
