A STUDENT will appear on TV after braving creepy crawlies for a science and engineering lecture.

Orla Hannant-Clune, who attends Ursuline Academy in Ilford, picked up cockroaches in the televised 2017 Christmas Lectures.

The Wanstead student assisted Sophie Scott from the UCL’s Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience for the “say it with sound” instalment of the series.

Ms Hannant-Clune said: “I loved helping out in the Christmas Lectures. I was also amazed when Sophie explained how laughing is one of the most communicative noises a human can make is.”

The series explores how humans and animals send messages with sound, how we turn thoughts into language and how we communicate without noise.

You can see how Orla fared on Tuesday, December 26 at 8pm on BBC4.
