Two men had legs amputated following a serious crash on the North Circular in Redbridge.

Police were called to the Redbridge Roundabout flyover at around 10.30pm on Tuesday (January 9) to reports a silver BMW 330 Sport had been involved in a colision with a Vauxhall Vectra.

As a result of the crash, the Vectra had then gone on to hit two men, who were standing at the side of the road next to their own car, which had broken down.

The two men, both aged in their 40s, were taken to hospital.

Neither is in a life-threatening condition, however, police said their injuries were extremely serious and led to both men having a leg amputated.

The occupants of the Vectra - a driver and a passenger - were not injured.

The BMW stopped at the scene. However the male driver made off on foot prior to the arrival of emergency services.

Detectives from the Met Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Chadwell Heath are investigating the incident.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injuries by dangerous driving. He has been released under investigation.
