MP Iain Duncan Smith has praised a vegetable company for employing local workers to ensure business with thrive post-Brexit.
The MP for Chingford and Woodford Green said Glinwell’s plan to cope with demand once unskilled migrant labour is scrapped was “sensible”.
He met with horticulturalists and other members of Lea Valley Growers Association at Glinwell’s nursery in Nazeing in Essex this week.
The company which employs 450 workers and is keen to expand its workforce is offering people living in the area the chance to train in the horticulture industry.
Mr Duncan Smith said: “Glinwell deserves recognition for its commitment to sustainable food production and its investment in the local area.
“As a long-established family business, I am impressed by its continuing focus on innovation while maintaining quality.
“The company supports initiatives on encouraging the upskilling of the UK workforce. In addition to increasing productivity and local employment rates, I believe that this initiative is a sensible set of proposals for a future immigration policy in the post-Brexit economy.”
