BOLLYWOOD glamour was on display in a school production packed with music, dancing and acting.

More than 250 students from years seven to 13 wowed audience members and raised a whopping £27,000 for three charities at Bancroft’s annual Taal event.

Members of the school’s Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist and Muslim Society (HSBM) wrote, choreographed and directed the event. They also found sponsorship and sourced costumes.

Daffodil Dhayaa, a year 13 pupil and one of the presidents of HSBM Society, says: “I’ve been involved in Taal since year seven, either through acting or dancing.

“The most rewarding part of the Taal is seeing the cast grow, the dances develop and the actors gain confidence on the stage.

“Seeing the show piece together before my eyes was certainly the most rewarding part, the sense of accomplishment that came with seeing the production we had put together is indescribable.”

This year’s play was a modern production loosely based on Aladdin.

Money raised will be split between Pan Asian Women’s Association, United World Schools and SOS Children’s Villages.

The student-curated event has taken place at the Woodford Green school for 16 years.
