A mother has heaped praise on a hospice for making a “tremendous difference” to the life of her son, who is battling a rare genetic condition.

Jaycee Wharfe has signed up to take part in the East London Bubble Rush in June in support of Haven House Children’s Hospice in Woodford Green, along with best friend, Emily Noad.

Ms Wharfe, a nursery nurse from Enfield, was inspired to run for her son, Finnley, who suffers from a condition called holoprosencephaly, which prevents his brain from fully developing.

The two-year-old has received a number of treatments at the hospice, including music therapy and sensory play.

“Haven House has made a tremendous difference to Finnley and taking part in the Bubble Rush is my way of saying thank you for all the support my family has received,” Ms Wharfe said.

“Everyone at Haven House always ask how Finnley is doing and it’s the little things like being offered tea and coffee at reception before he starts his music therapy which makes us feel so welcome.

“Haven House is such a special place to my little family. The staff are so friendly and couldn’t be more helpful. I really hope more people in the local area can support the charity.”

The Bubble Rush is a charity run organised by Haven House, Saint Francis Hospice in Romford, Richard House Children’s Hospice in Beckton and St Joseph’s Hospice in Hackney.

This year, the event will take place on a five kilometre course through the Olympic Park in Stratford on June 10, with four “bubble stations” where foam will add to the fun along the route.

The 2017 edition of the run saw more than 1,000 children and adults take part by running, jogging or walking to the finish line.

Katie Tyler, event manager at Haven House, said: “We are delighted that Jaycee is taking part in the Bubble Rush and we hope to see even more participants at this year’s event.

“It promises to be a colourful, fun-filled day with plenty of foam and funds raised will help us support more families like Jaycee and Finnley.”
