Police are attempting to trace items stolen from two churches during burglaries that are thought to have been later sold at a market.

A coat of arms, an oil painting, brass book rests, a crucifix and brass jugs were taken during burglaries at All Saints Church, in Middleton, and St Andrews Church, Abberton.

The items were thought to have been taken during incidents on Tuesday, March 13, and Thursday, March 29, and police believe they may have then been sold on at North Weald market.

Essex Police said the various items taken in the burglaries are of sentimental value to both church communities.
