A student studying a college programme through the Leyton Orient Trust has been awarded for his conduct both on and off the pitch.

Kristian Aleksandrov, who is enrolled on Leyton Orient Trust’s college study programme at Waltham Forest College in Walthamstow, has won a Jack Petchey Award.

The youngster, who is working towards a Level 1 BTEC Diploma in Sport qualification, was nominated by his teachers for his positive attitude; behaviour in the classroom and on the playing field.

He was awarded a certificate and £250 achievement award grant to spend on equipment of his choice that will benefit the college.

“I’m excited about winning this award.” He said: “I wasn’t expecting it, but I’m really proud of myself.

“I’m not sure how I’ll spend the prize just yet, but it’ll probably be a trip somewhere – something fun we can all do together as a whole class.

“It’s fantastic knowing that I’ve been doing great and that the teachers have seen it and appreciated it as well.”

Sir Jack Petchey founded the Jack Petchey Foundation in 1999 to recognise positive contributions made by young people in society and assist them in achieving their potential.

The foundation’s achievement awards is a recognition scheme operating in grass roots youth clubs, youth organisations, secondary schools and uniformed organisations.

Lloyd Boateng, Kristian’s Teacher, said: “Kristian has been a professional student both academically and for the Leyton Orient Trust College football team.

“Kristian plays an integral part within lessons and is a role model amongst his peers.”
