A chess club has hailed its rising star who has shot to new heights with his "outstanding" performance.
Kyan Bui, a member of Wanstead & Woodford Chess Club, has played his way to becoming a member of the County Chess Team for Essex.
The 12-year-old joined the club in September 2016 and has played a number of matches, home and away, for the club since.
Kyan, a pupil at Ilford County High, was awarded four prizes for his outstanding performance over the last 12 months at the club's annual general meeting.
He received one shared cash prize, the David Wood Memorial Board, the Best Relative Junior Performance in CC and the John Philpott Trophy.
Chess players who would like to join one of the best clubs in the country, can come along on Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm at Wanstead House, 21 The Green.
Children are always welcome.
