The public has been urged to send 102nd birthday cards to a former air force worker who has few surviving family members.

On July 22 Wyn Davidson will turn 102.

Born in Sunderland close to where she currently lives, Mrs Davidson was stationed in Epping Forest in her youth to serve for the WRAF.

Now the former cake shop worker has only three surviving family members, prompting nephew Ron Clark to organise a birthday card campaign on her behalf.

He said: "During the Second World War she served down in Epping Forest.

"I imagine that the people she served with will have passed on, but their family members might want to send Wyn a card.

"She doesn't have many people left and she doesn't get many cards these days."

On the day of her birthday fire fighters are due to deliver Mrs Davidson a surprise birthday cake.

Cards should be sent to 98 Rowan Avenue, Washington, Tyne and Wear, NE38 9AG.
