Five senior peers including two former senior military officers have called for retail closure across the UK for Remembrance Sunday 2018 which falls on November 11 (Armistice Day), exactly 100 years since the guns fell silent.

Kate Hoey MP, with cross-party support, has put forward Early Day Motion 1036 calling for the one day closure. This was endorsed by the Usdaw annual conference on a unanimous vote.

All MPs and peers would win huge respect by coming together as one - and legislate for retail closure across the UK for Remembrance Sunday, November 11 (Armistice Day), 2018. And thus enhance the peace, decorum and reflection inherent in Remembrance Sunday.
