A primary school's playground has come alive with a colourful crop of fruits, herbs and vegetables.
Snaresbrook Primary School pupils have spent the last year tending to their edible playground, and are thrilled their hard work has paid off.
The crops, including rosemary, thyme, tomatoes, kale, brussel sprouts and runner beans have now grown.
The Edible Playground has been taking shape all year.
Organisation TreeforCities put together the infrastructure, whilst the children, staff and parents did the rest.
Redbridge deputy mayor councillor Taifur Rashid cut the ribbon to declare the edible garden officially open.
Wanstead Village councillor Paul Donovan said: “This is a great initiative, getting the kids involved with growing their own food at such an early stage.
"It is so important that we all make that connection with the earth, getting our hands dirty as it were.
"All the kids seem genuinely enthused and involved, it would be great to see other schools in the area taking on the edible playground idea.
“The staff, parents and children at Snaresbrook are certainly showing the way.”
