A project to celebrate the creation and development of grime music in Waltham Forest will kick off this Autumn.
Grime Waltham Forest aims to shine a light on the artists, producers and promoters who contributed to the emergence of music at the beginning of the noughties.
It will include a film-making project for 16 to 25-year-olds to create a documentary about the borough’s history of grime music, which will be screened at several events to celebrate Waltham Forest’s title of Borough of Culture in 2019.
The project will also feature a two-week programme of gigs, beat-making and lyric-writing workshops, panel discussions and talks.
Grime Waltham Forest is produced by Beatroots Creative, a social enterprise, alongside a number of partners in the music industry.
Director Emma Betts said: “We are really excited to be working with a number of artists, producers and creative organisations to explore and showcase the borough’s rich grime heritage and are very grateful to the National Lottery and the London Borough of Waltham Forest for their support to enable it to happen.”
