Loughton Leisure Centre has celebrated its reopening after enjoying a refurbishment worth £2.5 million.

The new facilities at the site in Traps Hill include a two-storey gym, a group cycling studio and two additional workout studios where classes will be held.

The gym is stocked with 150 state-of-the-art fitness machines such as watt bikes, SkillMill treadmills and lifting platforms.

The centre also boasts an indoor climbing wall, a swimming pool, indoor bowls and squash courts.

Chairman of Epping Forest District Council, Cllr Richard Bassett, and Cllr Helen Kane were guests of honour at an unveiling ceremony on Saturday, September 8.

The day saw members of the public take part in free taster classes, gym challenges, face painting and getting up close and personal with the leisure centre’s mascot, Pooch.

Places for People Leisure, which manages the site, said work is underway to up-grade the existing wet side changing areas and this is expected to be completed by the end of September.

In August, Loughton Leisure Centre won the title of Gym of the Year from the East London and West Essex Guardian Series.
