The team behind Waltham Forest’s Borough of Culture celebration is looking for artists to take on major projects.

Waltham Forest is Mayor of London Sadiq Khan’s first Borough of Culture next year and organisers want to create seven large projects across the year.

Dancers, poets, actors and visual artists are all welcome to apply to take part in the projects, which are designed to celebrate Waltham Forest’s seven wards.

One opportunity partners with Waltham Forest’s award-winning William Morris Gallery, offering a visual artist the opportunity to be Artist in Residence.

The remaining six opportunities will be open to artists from any discipline.

Three projects will be offered to artists based in East London and three to those based anywhere in the world.

The seven project will vary from six weeks to three months and all artists will receive a fee.

The Borough of Culture team is particularly encouraging applications from BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) artists and collaborations are encouraged.

Sam Hunt, creative director of London Borough of Culture 2019, said: “We are excited to be launching this open call for artists to help define the first London Borough of Culture.

“We are really interested in working with individuals and groups who share our ethos of ensuring everything we do is in some way co-created with the communities of the borough.”

Cllr Clare Coghill, Waltham Forest Council leader, said: “This is an incredible opportunity to tell the stories of Waltham Forest. If you have a bold, ambitious, imaginative idea for the London Borough of Culture programme, we want to hear from you.

“Whether you’re a choreographer, theatre maker, writer or musician, be a part of this epic celebration.”

The deadline for submissions is 11.30pm on Sunday October 14 and a selection panel will take place on November 2.
