Long-planned work to upgrade an Epping sports building is slightly behind schedule.

After proposals were first floated to refresh the often vandalised Jack Silley Pavilion in 2014, plans were submitted to the district council last year.

The new football changing rooms are due to be completed on November 2, with work on the cafe extension about a fortnight behind schedule.

The Stonards Hill Recreation Ground building is used by football teams, dog walkers, exercisers, visitors to the playground and scouts.

At a town council meeting on Monday Beverley Rumsey, clerk, said: "I went go and have a look at the pavilion.

"Apart from the floor, everything is going really well.

"We will probably finish the everything else and then the changing rooms."
