A woman has accused the council’s housing arm of ignoring her as she prepares to face her fourth winter without a radiator in her kitchen.

Heather Soper, who lives on Queen’s Road, Finchley, had the radiator removed by Barnet Homes’ contractors when they came to deal with rising damp in the kitchen in 2015.

The 68-year-old, who has arthritis, said she was given an electric blow heater as a replacement – but she does not want to use it because it will push up her electricity bill.

And despite repeated her demands for a new radiator, she said Barnet Homes had still not addressed the issue.

Ms Soper said: “Barnet Homes just ignore me. This will be the fourth year I have not had a radiator in my kitchen.

“It has got a stone floor, and it is freezing cold in winter. This is beyond belief.

“It is really horrible to go out in that kitchen. It makes the whole wall downstairs cold.

“When I put the heat on, it doesn’t feel like it is on. The cold air comes out of the kitchen and takes the warm air away.

“They can’t do this. It is against my human rights. Barnet are being cruel.”

Ms Soper recently complained when Barnet Homes gave her a £50 B&Q voucher to pay for damage to her home caused by a water leak after contractors had botched repairs to her bathroom.

A spokesman for Barnet Homes said: “We continue to work with Ms Soper to resolve a number of complex issues she has raised with us and are currently awaiting her consent to our proposed solutions, on receipt of which, we would be happy to replace the radiator.

“Ms Soper’s welfare remains important to us and we have fitted an electric radiator in her kitchen as a temporary measure whilst we seek to find permanent solutions for her.”
