Pupils, parents and teachers have raised just shy of a quarter of a million pounds for Cancer Research UK.

Over the past three years a team of nearly 100 Chigwell School parents, staff and Old Chigwellians have run in the Royal Parks Half Marathon.

After a period of intensive fundraising and then a day of soaking up London's famous sights, the team had collected £90,000 for the charity, taking its three years total to £240,000.

Also backing Cancer Research UK were current Chigwell School pupils, who ran a mini-mile-long-marathon around the grounds.

They raised £320 in the process.

Ed Aspel, executive director of fundraising and marketing at the charity, said: “No individual person or single action will beat cancer.

"We must find ways to work together, to take small, yet meaningful, steps forward and to unite those who believe in a better future.

"The fundraising community at Chigwell School is one of the finest examples of where these beliefs are being put into action.

"The students, parents, alumni and staff from Chigwell School are a powerful team and your support is helping us to make faster progress towards our goal of three in four people surviving cancer by 2034.

"Together we will beat cancer.”
