Two men tried to steal an ATM machine by using gas to create an explosion in the early hours of the morning, police say.
The cashpoint at a bank in Epping High Street was targeted at around 3.30am today.
Essex Police have set up a cordon around the ATM and say they do not believe there is any danger to the public.
No one was injured in the incident and, at this stage, it is not clear if anything has been taken.
Anyone who saw anything suspicious or who has CCTV or dash cam footage is asked to call police on 101 quoting incident 99 of November 30.
