While police reported that the incident happened outside the Three Colts Pub, the establishment's landlord Adam Brookes claimed it happened 70m down the road close to the children's play park.
He said: "I first heard about the incident when the police came in.
"I am completely confident it is nothing to do with the pub.
"The fact that the police brought my pub into this story has angered me."
