There’s Christmas cheer aplenty in East London - which may be the most festive region in the UK.

A study from Royal Mail has found that there are 1,780 yuletide street and house monikers in the E postcode area.

These include Holly Drive in Chingford, Ivy Road in Walthamstow and Chestnut Drive in Wanstead.

The company’s Address Management Unit analysed over 30 million addresses to evaluate the impact that the season of goodwill has had on British addresses.

The most festive, and unusual, address names were Winter Hey Lane in Bolton, Reindeer Road in Tamworth and Christmas Steps in Warminster.

Steve Rooney, head of Royal Mail’s Address Management Unit, said: “Street, house and building names chiefly reflect our nation’s heritage and primary interests.

“The enduring spirit of Christmas clearly extends well past December 25 in the UK, as so many festive terms are clearly resonant in the names of our streets and houses.”

The research found that holly and ivy are the most popular Christmas-related terms across the country, with more than 7,000 and 9,000 entries respectively, and more than 3,000 homes named Ivy Cottages alone.
