A 39-year-old woman was admitted to hospital in a “critical condition” having been allegedly assaulted following a car crash.
Police were called to reports of a collision between two cars at Gants Hill Roundabout in Redbridge at around 6:50pm on Friday.
Upon arrival, police discovered a woman driving a Kia Picanto – one car involved in the crash – who required first aid until the arrival of the London Ambulance Service.
She was taken to an east London hospital where she remains in a critical condition.
Police are investigating a report the woman was allegedly assaulted by the driver of the second car, a Toyota Yaris, shortly after the collision.
A 54-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault. He was taken to an east London police station where he remains in custody.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses to call the East Area Command Unit via 101, quoting CAD 5786.
In particular, police wish to speak with a witness who was at the scene. He is a white man around 6ft 2ins tall.
To remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
