A 14-year-old boy has died after he was stabbed in a street this evening.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the boy died after he was found with stab wounds in Bickley Road, near Leyton, at 6.30pm.

The teenager was pronounced dead at 7.09pm and his family have been informed.

The Metropolitan Police have revealed the victim had been riding a moped and was attacked by three males.

A spokesman said: "It has now been established by detectives the boy was riding a moped that had been involved in a collision with a car.

"It is believed that three males got out of the car and then stabbed the victim before returning to the vehicle and driving off."

The Met Police say they were initially called to reports of a crash.

A crime scene is in place in Bickley Road and enquiries are ongoing.

Forensic officers are searching the scene and the street remains cordoned off at both ends. A forensic tent has been erected in the middle.

The homocide and major crime team have been informed.

The Met Police say no arrests have been made at this stage.

Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy has reacted to the stabbing. 

She tweeted: "Walthamstow devastated to report a young boy - just 14 - has lost his life in our community tonight. This terrible event on Bickley Road has only just been confirmed.

"At moment that is all the info I have - anyone with evidence or info on tonight's incident please do call 101."

The Mayor of London has also spoken out this evening.

Sadiq Khan said: "I’m greatly saddened by news of the fatal stabbing of a 14 year old in Waltham Forest, and my thoughts are with his family and friends.
