The mystery of a missing swan has been solved.

Wildlife lovers reported the swan as missing from its home in Wanstead Park last week after it had not been seen for two weeks.

Wildfowl related fears have been abated however, after the swan was reported safe and well following surgery to have a large growth on its leg removed.

It is expected the male swan will be returned to Wanstead Park in a few weeks.

A spokesperson for the City of London Corporation, which manages Wanstead Park, said: “A male swan (cob) at Wanstead Park was recently noted as having a large growth on its leg.

“Epping Forest Keepers, working alongside Swan Rescue, recovered the swan and it is currently being treated at the Swan Sanctuary.

“The non-cancerous lump was removed successfully and the swan will be returned to Wanstead Park in the coming weeks.

“The cob’s partner and cygnet will continue to be monitored by staff and volunteers.”
